Shanghai Marathon 2026 – 30th Anniversary Edition
The 2026 Shanghai International Marathon takes place on December 6, 2026, with the 5K Breakfast Run held the day before on December 5. This landmark edition marks the 30th anniversary of one of Asia's most iconic road races, held in the heart of Shanghai, China.
The race starts at the Bund Bull Plaza in Huangpu District, along the scenic Huangpu River waterfront, and finishes at Xujiahui Sports Park. The flat, fully closed-road course passes celebrated landmarks including Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, Jing'an Temple, Huaihai Road, and Xintiandi, offering a stunning contrast between historic architecture and a futuristic skyline.
Recognised as a World Athletics Platinum Label Road Race and an official candidate for the Abbott World Marathon Majors, the 2026 edition expands its capacity to 30,000 runners — up from 23,000 the previous year. Categories include the full marathon (42.195 km), a wheelchair marathon, and a 5K. The marathon starts in waves from 7:00 AM, with the wheelchair category beginning at 6:45 AM.
To celebrate the 30th milestone, organizers have unveiled a special logo combining the number 30 with the infinity symbol, and a commemorative medal inspired by artist Xu Beihong's iconic galloping steeds. Entry is via a public lottery at www.shang-ma.com or through official international tour operators.
